If you were to read the Product Data Sheet for 'Dulux Timbercolour' under section "Pre-Application -> System Information", you will get the impression that a Primer coat is not needed when painting on a wooden surface. I assume "N/A" means "not applicable" here.
But from what little knowledge that I knew, a primer or at least an undercoat is needed to ensure good adhesion for the top coat.
Confused, I fired off a question to Dulux Malaysia. I got a reply a day later from Customer Care. They said that they didn't know either and they will get back to me once that get an explanation from RDI, whoever they are. I waited, and waited, and waited .... More than a month later, the said reply has yet to come.
I then sent off a question to Dulux Singapore since 'Dulux Timbercolour' is available for sale in Singapore too. I got a reply from them 3 days later and this is what they say:
-
Application - Yes, direct to the timber substrate.
-
New substrate - Ensure that substrate is thorough dry before painting. For porous new substrate, dilute with about 10% portable water and apply first coat for better penetration to the substrate. No dilution will require for subsequent coat. Do not paint during wet weather.
-
Existing painted substrate - If existing painted with Solvent-based Paint/Enamel Paint, recommend to use Solvent-based Product for repainting.
Very efficient of the Dulux Singapore Customer Care team I must say. A big THANK YOU to them.
Guess I have to skip using Dulux Timbercolour as my old roof fascia was previously painted with oil based paint. What a shame.
The link to the Dulux Official Store at Lazada Malaysia is here, by the way.
Just popped in from ipohWorld to say that I really enjoy your blog. I always learn something. Thanks for writing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment Ipoh Remembered. I actually started this blog to earn some pocket money. But instead, selling my stock photos at Dreamstime.com seems to be more lucrative instead.
DeleteI am not much of a writer as I always find it difficult expressing myself. But I like exploring new ideas. Hence this blog to record down what I have uncovered.
