Over the last couple of weeks, I have been toying around with the idea of getting a budget manual macro lens. Not too sure why I did not try it out earlier, but after stopping down the aperture to f/18 (with my Olympus camera + zoom lens and Raynox DCR-250), I think I will be delaying my decision a bit. Reason being, the picture quality is not too bad with this setup as you can see from the picture above, unedited 100% cropped ( click here for enlarged image).
The actual size of the mantis is about 13mm in length, excluding the antenna.
Diffraction? None that I can see.
Depth of field? Acceptable in my opinion.
Before this, f/8 and f/11 was the norm for me. Needless to say, I was mostly unhappy with my tiny insect macro pictures.
Focal length of the picture above is at 111mm. So it is a little under a 1:1 magnification. On a micro 4/3 system, I need to be at least 123mm for a 1:1. I only realised this fact after I've taken the picture above.
Auto focus is employed here - hey it works for me.
Now, will I get an even better picture with a dedicated budget macro lens from either a TTArtisan 40mm or 7Artisans 60mm Mark I?
Anybody knows? Has anybody done any comparison before?
