Keeping Canon Selphy Printing Glitches At Bay

Nine months ago I bought a Canon Selphy CP1300 photo printer. Printed some photos when I first received it and I was happy with how the photos came out. Superb print quality. The best part, I bought it at an unbeatable price because of the Lazada 11.11 sale. Essentially after all the discounts, I got the photo paper and cartridge for free. In case you didn't know, no paper or cartridge is included with the printer, unless it is a bundled deal.

3 coloured dots - Canon Selphy printing glitch

Some 2 weeks later, I printed some photos again. Not sure why, but this time there was a glitch on the first print. Three coloured dots on the output that were not in the original JPEG image (see picture above). I was disappointed obviously. Subsequent prints however went perfectly. A big sigh of relief. Thank god.

But what went wrong on the first print?

Some fungus, mold growth or moisture condensation on the photo paper, or worse within the printer itself? After all, we get something like minimum 80% humidity in the tropical Malaysian atmosphere.

Since I already have a dry-box for my camera and lenses, I decided to store my Selphy printer together with its paper and tray in it.

The results so far after some 8 months: my prints from this printer have been problem free. They all came out well.

But mind you, I usually plug-in the printer to the power supply for about 15 minutes before making my first print. Just my silly and unproven thoughts about heating up the printer internals before printing. Never, know. Maybe it does work.

Note: A dry box is basically a container with some desiccant in it to keep the humidity level in the box at a controlled level (35% - 45% in my case). Also included in the container is a hygrometer for measuring the moisture level.
