I feel so sad. ChahJee died yesterday 5th July 2024 after been with my family for only 18 days. He died at around 1:35 P.M.. My wife and I was by his side.
He injured himself quite badly last week 27th June 2024. I did not witness it but I think he first fell and hit himself at the face in the garage. There were traces of blood there. He may have hit himself for the second time while at the side of the house as I heard a loud anguish cat 'meow' at around 4:15 P.M. That's when I went to investigate and found him bleeding from the mouth and nose. His eye was swollen too. I was obviously shocked. I believe he bit his tongue too.
I don't think he was caught in a fight as I did not hear one.
I am not sure if he injured himself again when he had to climbed over the wall from the garage to the side of the house. By my guess, I think he did.
I have to keep him indoors in a cage as flies have already detected the scent of blood from his injuries. Space is not at a premium but I did extend the cage a bit when I notice that he was getting a bit restless when he got better.
He was recovering quite well in the first 5 days despite limited food and water intake. He even greeted me on the morning of the fifth day with 2 'meows' when I went to see him. We all thought that he was getting better.
Things began to go wrong on the seventh day when I noticed a bulge around the rib cage and behind the neck area. I thought it was dehydration and fed him more water.
On the morning of the eight day, he was already wobbly while walking. Looks quite weak too. He did ate and drank a little. By mid-morning I can see some discomfort in him.
I thought of giving him a wipe around 1:20 P.M. That's when I noticed when he had breathing difficulties. He died 15 minutes later gasping for air. Looks like he was in pain too.
I am still trying to comprehend now, how did he get lower lung infection? Could it because he slept on wet newspaper, spilt from his drinking dish at night? Did the infection spread to his other internal organs?
I'm kicking myself for this now.
