RavenPlus Version 1.0.504

If you have been following my blog, you would have realised that I have made a couple of improvements and bug fixes to RavenPlus since the release of RavenPlus Version 1.0.503. After about a year, I think it is about time I release a new version of RavenPlus - Version 1.0.504 .

Download Link

I have uploaded RavenPlus Version 1.0.504 to my Google Drive and you can download the ZIP file here. Do read the Disclaimer below before downloading.

Change Log

  1. Fixed some quirkiness with the "Save" button in the editor window after performing a:

  2. Instead of at the bottom, "iframe" tags (for my Amazon Affiliate Ads) can now to placed anywhere within a blog post (subject to the correct settings of the appropriate "iframe" parameters, obviously).

tidyOptions = dict(output_xhtml=1, add_xml_decl=0, add_xml_space=0, quiet=1, char_encoding="utf8", \
   output_error=0, show_warnings=0, quote_nbsp=1, raw=1, indent="yes", show_body_only=1, \

  1. Is the absence of a exe file deliberate?

    1. Everything is as before, like in the previous releases. Nothing excluded. It's more or less a 12 MB download.

But I did noticed that Google Drive is a bit problematic and slow over the last couple of days. So more than one attempt may be necessary when downloading.

  2. I was very happy to find this as I used Raven for WordPress.com under XP and lost access when I shifted to Windows 8.1. The original Raven site appears to have had no updates for some years but the WordPress offline editors page site points to it. Raven isn't perfect but it's an extremely useful tool. Do you have plans to merge this back into the official release or is RavenPlus a standalone project?

    1. Zoundry Raven open-source is hosted on Google Code, and the site Google Code will be shutting down soon. So, RavenPlus is a standalone project for the moment. I am glad to know that you are happy with my work on RavenPlus.

    2. Understood. This was quite a challenge to find -- blundered into it almost by accident in search results.

    3. I think I am guilty at this. I thought of promoting my blog actively only after I have had something like a few hundred blog posts. I don't see the point otherwise as there is not much to read. I only have 84 posts now. Also, I blog and work on Ravenplus in my spare time. In total, it's not more that 3 hours per day. Sometimes when my brain gets numb looking at too much computer code, I will just leave programming aside for a couple of weeks. Things are moving along but at a snail's pace.

  3. Since the update I've started using this on my blog I have a "stuff I use tab" which I'd like to index this on. Is there a stable link for current files or should I link to your blog URL?

Also, does RavenPlus produce some sort of a crash log you would like the contents from?

    1. Can you use this link?

      http://chuahtc.blogspot.in/search/label/RavenPlus%20Downloads?max-results=5

This is the URL for the label "RavenPlus Downloads". All future (and current) releases of RavenPlus will be tagged with this label from now on, with the latest post/version at the very top.

I am not accepting crash logs at the moment. This software is quite complex and there is still a lot that I do not understand. For now I am only concentrating on fixing the flaws that I can find in the editor window.

And by the way, thanks for creating the link to my blog. I am deeply honoured.

  4. I can use the link. And I VERY much appreciate that someone is doing anything at all with this. It's one of the few offline editors that handles WordPress pages in addition to posting -- which makes page updates far easier to work with.

One question, in the event this is a known issue. I'm hoping that there is some setting I can make on my end to make this go away (Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit):

I'm getting an error dialog when I attempt to set Tools > Preferences:

Error: 'Error while attempting to save the properties file
    ...\RavenPlus\profiles\My Profile\config\user-properties.xml

In the error detail it shows it as "permission denied." I tried running with administrative rights and that didn't help. I duplicated the error while looking at the director with the xml file and it added ".t" to the filename which disappeared after I cleared the error dialog (if that means anything).

Viatorlassus above is also me -- for some reason I couldn't connect to the thread when I tried again.

    1. I tried recreating your problem on Windows 7 but failed. I assume you have also tried running as WinXP SP3 compatability mode. Looks like this is a problem with Windows 8, specifically with file permissions.

Perhaps you could try granting yourself full control and taking ownership to the file

      "\RavenPlus\profiles\My Profile\config\user-properties.xml" or

      perhaps to the directory

"\RavenPlus\profiles\My Profile" (the permission should propagate downwards)

with the instructions from this link:

      http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/take-ownership-of-files-folder-and-change-permissions-in-windows-8/

      I don't have Windows 8 here so I can't try this out.

I just had a look at your "Stuff I Use" page. Very well written - Thank you. For some reason, my URL address gets rewritten sometimes to a .in instead of a .com in my browser's URL address bar, and I didn't even notice it when I copy-and-pasted it into my comment above. If it is not too much trouble, could you use these links on this page please?

I did realize the connection between Viatorlassus and Steve Mittelstaedt by looking at the link. I think you have to click on "Reply" in blogspot.com blogs to reconnect to a thread. Comments are nested to one level only as far as I know.

      Hope this helps.

  5. The compatibility troubleshooter served up Windows Vista but switching to XP SP3 appears to decrease the frequency of the error. I suspected this had something to do with W8 file permissions so I'll fiddle with that.

I've updated the links. This is one reason I like Raven so much. Direct access to pages that I'm adding to with some regularity.

    Thank you again!

    1. I think from Windows Vista onwards, Windows user are encouraged to keep their work files and settings under C:\Users. MS might have tighten things up a bit in Windows8 compared to before Windows7. So, two things that you might want to try. There's a possibility that you might have to re-download your blogs from the Wordpress blog server so that the correct permissions are set, as far as the Raven data files are concern.

      1. Keep your Raven profile and data at

      C:\Users\[user account name]\AppData\Roaming\Zoundry\Zoundry Raven\My Profile

Note: The above is the default under Windows7.

      2. Keep your Raven profile and data on any other partition but C: A flash drive or an external hard disk are possible options here.

  6. Hi T.C!
    Thanks for your work!!!!
If you can, I made 3 suggestions: 1) Can you add 300px width image? I really need this size. 2) Can you make possible select more than 1 post for delete? 3) Can you make possible override publish time but in published post (now only work with new posts)

For Bloggers users you will fix loguin problem? My sister use Zoundry with Blogger and is very sad.

    Thanks for all!

    1. I don't think there is a restriction with image width in Raven/RavenPlus. Some of my inserted images are about 500 pixels in width and they get displayed correctly upon publishing. What I do was to drag-and-drop the picture files into the RavenPlus editor from Windows Explorer. Then in the dialog box "Generate Thumbnail?" I make sure that the option "Do not generate a thumbnail" is selected.

I am working on RavenPlus in my spare time only. I was concentrating my work on the editor - but now on the OAuth2 problem with Blogger.
