Google Is Shutting Down PicasaWeb

My Oh My. After put in so much time and effort into integrating Picasa and OAuth2 into RavenPlus, Google has now announced that it is shutting down PicasaWeb. May 1 2016 is the date to look out for as that is when Google will start rolling out the changes.

I have had a look at the PicasaWeb API developer page and it seems that pictures uploads via RavenPlus should work as what we have now in version 1.0.507. This is what the notice in this page says:

Looks okay to me. But who knows, Google has pulled the rug from right under our feet before.

    1. Actually, there is not much different between PicasaWeb and Google Photos. But on the programming side, it may create some headache for me when Google starts changing the APIs.

But personally I prefer Flickr actually. If you are short on bandwidth, do try our their mobile site https://m.flickr.com and click on "Todays's interestingness" and you will see what I mean.

    2. Flickr or any external image NOT WORK with Blogger when you have a blog with a home or widget with thumbnails.
Blogger only create thumbs if the image is in Google. When I wait for your fix in Picasa I use Flickr but my blog not show thumbs.
Image in Google are imperative for create thumbs

    3. Hola,

I think your template is using an undocumented feature/command for creating thumbnails in Blogger. That's why it only works with pictures hosted by Google.

But beware though, Google may just take this undocumented feature aware at anytime.

I don't use thumbnails in my template, so I do not have this problem with Flickr on my Blogger blog.

    4. Is not the template. Is a real problem. In Flickr Forum answer this:

"Testing in Blogger shows that the new Flickr code is not accepted by Blogger. So you need to ask over at Blogger."

And other blogs say the same, for example

"If all of the images are linked from an external source, a thumbnail will not be generated."

    5. This is something that I will not pursue as I don't use thumbnails. Neither am I an expert in Blogger templates. All I do know is that Picasa and Flickr have different URLs for the same picture at different resolutions.

    6. But you don't unmdestand me, T.C.
I don't ask you to fix Flickr or thumbs problem. I only made the comment about thumbs problem, 'cause you say "I prefer Flickr". That's all.
Too much you did it for us with your Raven and Picasa fix. THAAAAANNKKKSSS forever!

    7. No offence intended Hola. My appologies if I did.

To clarify on why I prefer Flickr:

I seem to get more attention with my photos on Flickr as compared to Picasa or Google+. Plus I like the cross-section of pictures on "Todays's interestingness" because I enjoy looking at well composed pictures as I get to learn from them.
